Indiana 4-H Foundation Scholarships
These scholarships, based solely on 4-H achievements, are for post-high school education and serve also as an incentive to 4-Hers to make their best better. Applications are accepted through the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Office in the 4-Hers' home county each fall. Foundation scholarships are awarded at the county level and are often supported by individuals, Extension groups and companies in that county. These contributors, along with the Foundation's contributions, make the scholarships possible for over 200 4-H members each year.
Indiana 4-H Accomplishment Scholarships
Each year over 25 scholarships are presented to 4-Hers excelling in specific project areas. These Accomplishment scholarships are funded by sponsors of the Indiana 4-H Foundation. 4-Hers apply through the Purdue University Cooperative Extension Office in the late fall with the selections being made the following spring. In addition to the written application which includes a resume and an essay on the Life Skills learned through the 4-H experience, these applicants are interviewed by a team of judges. These scholarships are for secondary education at the school of the recipients' choice and are awarded at the Recognition Luncheon during Indiana 4-H Congress.
State Junior Leader Conference
Over 125 4-H teens participate in the conference where delegates practice skills in leadership, decision-making, taking responsibility, team building and communications. State 4-H Junior Leader Council members plan and lead the conference, continuing the tradition of leadership experiences for all participants. The Junior Leader program is vital to Indiana 4-H youth development with many of its alumni now in leadership roles in business and government.
Key Club Awards
4-H Members are honored for their 4-H achievements in the local club and county with the presentation of Key Club Awards which include a certificate and gift. Members are encouraged to continue leadership in action to further 4-H club work.
Indiana 4-H Congress
The Indiana 4-H Foundation, in collaboration with the Purdue University Extension Service, sponsors the Indiana 4-H Congress each fall. The one-day event brings 250 4-H Junior Leader delegates to Indianapolis for intensive leadersip training workshops. They apply what they learn back home in their communities, working with younger 4-Hers and adults.
During Congress more than $35,000 in scholarhsips, funded by the Indiana 4-H Foundation, are awarded to outstanding 4-Hers header for higher education.
National 4-H Conference Trip
This program gives 4-H delegates a glimpse into the workings of our government during a trip to Washington D.C. Delgates participate in 4-H leadership development and explore our nation's capitol.
State Fair “Best of Show” 4-H Photography Awards
Each year, four Indiana 4-H members are recognized for their excellence in photography. We recognize the State Fair "Best in Show" 4-H Photography award winners at the Indiana 4-H Congress luncheon.The photos are professionally framed, thanks to the generosity of our donors, and are displayed at the Indiana 4-H Foundation office They are also used in newsletters, corporate and county displays throughout the year.
4-H Ambassadors Workshop
This annual event at Purdue University provides 4-H teens with the opportunity to sharpen their communications skills. They research, write and deliver a speech, create a marketing plan and prepare news releases. This skill development opportunity also includes a chance to work with media professionals.
